Incident impacting our Osseo Area Schools community

As you’ve likely heard, our state is grappling with a tragic incident. Two Minnesota legislators and their spouses were victims of gun violence in their homes Saturday morning. We’re deeply saddened to share that Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband have died from their injuries. Senator John Hoffman and his wife underwent surgery and are now in recovery.

This hits close to home for us in Osseo Area Schools. Senator Hoffman’s wife, Yvette, is a staff member in our district. Senator Hoffman and Representative Hortman have also dedicated their service to our Brooklyn Park community. Our thoughts and prayers are, of course, with the Hortmans, Hoffmans, and their entire families during this horrific time.

This is understandably very upsetting news. Staff are encouraged to reach out to the Employee Assistance Program or their school/site leadership team for any needed support. Families should reach out to United Way 211, a free 24/7 counseling service, at 651-291-0211.
