Last week of school events and festivities

The end of the school year is always filled with fun events at schools across the district. Here are a few events that have taken place at elementary and middle schools during the last week of school!

279Online elementary students celebrated the end of the school year with a get together at Central Park in Maple Grove. The students interacted with their classmates and teachers on the playground and enjoyed snacks together.

Basswood Elementary School

Fifth graders at Basswood said goodbye to elementary school with a parade around the outside of the school, cheered on by their families, staff and other students. Students in other grades created a tunnel for the fifth graders to walk through, giving out high fives and cheering them on.

Cedar Island Elementary School

To celebrate Principal Daniel Wald’s retirement, staff and students at Cedar Island Elementary lined the halls to say goodbye and cheer on Principal Wald as he made a final lap of the school. The students all held up pictures of Principal Wald over his years at Cedar Island.

Maple Grove Middle School

Maple Grove Middle School hosted an end of the year celebration for its eighth grade students on the last day of school. The students enjoyed food trucks such as wood-fired pizza and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, a deejay and a wide variety of games and activities.

Park Brook Elementary School

One of the events Park Brook Elementary did to honor its graduating fifth graders was a tree planting event on June 6. Each of the grade’s classes planted a weeping willow tree, with all students taking turns digging the holes and backfilling dirt to stabilize the new trees.

Rush Creek Elementary School

Fifth graders at Rush Creek Elementary put their STEM skills to the test when they launched their bottle rockets into the sky on June 5. Their innovations soared high into the air as their classmates and families watched.

Woodland Elementary School

Woodland Elementary students took to the fields for a variety of fun field day events on June 4. Some activities included obstacle courses, car races, hurdles, beanbag games and hula hooping.

Zanewood Community: A STEAM School

Zanewood Community: A STEAM School fifth graders gathered with  school leaders and their families outdoors for a moving up ceremony. Two students were selected to speak at the event and others were given STEAM awards for their efforts in science, technology, engineering, art and math programming. Then each student was given a certificate of completion award before the attendees gathered for refreshments.
