Osseo Area Schools' 2024 Athena Award winners
Three Osseo Area Schools athletes were chosen as the 2024 Athena Award winners, which recognizes outstanding senior female student-athletes from Twin Cities metro-area high schools.
With March being Women's History Month, celebrating these standout athletes at this time provides the opportunity for timely reflection of all the amazing female athletes throughout history who paved the way for today's girls and women to thrive in the world of sports and in other arenas.
Dani Strom - Maple Grove Senior High School
Strom participates in girls hockey and softball at Maple Grove Senior High School.
She is a five year Varsity letter winner for hockey, and was Varsity Captain in 2024 and Assistant Captain in 2023. She was the Maple Grove Varsity Defensive MVP in 2022 and 2023 and the Rookie of the Year in 2021. She was Northwest Suburban All-Conference in 2022, 2023 and 2024. She was additionally the Senior Goalie of the Year Finalist for Let's Play Hockey. She also played on the USA Under-18 National Team in 2023 that played in the Women's Worlds in Finland, among many other achievements.
When she graduates, Strom will be a four year starter and Varsity letter winner in softball. She is a two year varsity captain, and was named rookie of the year in 2020. Her team placed third in the State High School fastpitch tournament in 2023 and competed in the section finals in 2021 and 2022. She was named to the MN High School Fastpitch Coaches Association All Section Team in 2022 and 2023, the CCX Media All Area Team in 2022 and Northwest Suburban All Conference in 2022 and 2023.
Jules Davis - Osseo Senior High School
Davis participates in cross country, nordic skiing, basketball and track and field at Osseo Senior High School (OSH).
In cross country, Davis is a six time varsity letter earner, five time state meet individual qualifier and six time Northwest Suburban All Conference Honors winner. She is the second fastest OSH 5K runner ever. She has won a variety of awards on the OSH cross country team, including MVP, Coach Ras award and Team Spirit award, as well as newcomer of the year in seventh grade.
Davis is additionally a two year nordic skiing participant and one time Northwest Suburban All Conference honorable mention winner. She was also named newcomer of the year as a seventh grader.
Davis is a four time varsity letter earner in basketball, and serves as team captain.
In the spring, Davis is a member of the track and field team and is expected to be a four year letter winner after this upcoming season. She is the second all-time 3200m, third all-time 1600m, fourth all-time 4x400m relay and fourth all-time 4x800 relay on Osseo Track Honor Roll. She has earned four Northwest Suburban All Conference Honors and five Northwest Suburban All Conference Honorable Mentions.
Davis plans to attend Middlebury College in Vermont to study environmental studies and run cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
Aly Blomberg - Park Center Senior High School
Blomberg is an active participant in volleyball, nordic skiing and golf at Park Center Senior High School. She has received a combined 14 varsity letters from her participation in these sports, eight Most Valuable Player awards and eight conference awards.
Golf is Blomberg’s favorite sport, and she will continue to golf next year as part of the University of Minnesota-Mankato’s team next year.
“I have had a golf club in my hand since my first birthday,” Blomberg said. “Granted, it was a plastic one, but I have always known I wanted to be a golfer.”
Blomberg counts her sports memories or accomplishments as making it to the finals for Drive, Chip and Putt at age 15; competing at the state meet for golf in grades 9 and 11; earning 3rd in the conference for golf junior year and earning all conference every year since 7th grade.
