The results are in: Osseo Area Schools voters have approved Building a Better Future, Phase II, which enables our district to address critical school building needs for safety, learning and space. Specifically, 61.36% voted yes (7,415 votes) and 38.64% voted no (4,669 votes).
“We’re so thankful for a supportive community. Our schools will now have learning environments that enable our scholars to best succeed and achieve their dreams,” said Supt. Dr. Kim Hiel. “Additionally, the strategic plan that we worked together to create can be fully realized because of our community’s investment.”
The Building a Better Future, Phase II plan was created using multiple years of in-depth research from various study groups that involved students, staff, parents/caregivers and community members. Their work revealed critical school building needs, including: safety/security needs, teaching and learning needs, and space needs with regard to programming and current and predicted population growth.
This final phase of Building a Better Future meets the overall needs of our schools for the foreseeable future – equipping students with what they need to succeed both today and for many years to come.
“Thank you for once again recognizing and taking action on our school needs - your support will be seen and felt by generations of District 279 students,” Dr. Hiel added.
Vote counts are unofficial until canvassed by the school board at their Nov. 14 meeting.
