Zanewood Community: A STEAM School hosts future educators

Zanewood Community: A STEAM School had a number of events taking place Feb. 6. The school kicked off the day together in the gym with an all-school morning House meeting, then they split into their classroom groups, with second grade students taking part in a winter nature activity with Three Rivers Park District in the wooded portion of the school’s campus while other classes spent time in the school’s media center or Engineering Lab in addition to regular classroom activities.

A group of aspiring educators from the group Educators Rising at Blaine High School got to be part of it all, as Zanewood opened its doors to the students for a half-day visit.

As part of their visit to Zanewood, the Educators Rising students received a tour of the school, where they learned more about the school and its unique STEAM programming. They then took in part of the morning meeting before splitting into four different groups, where they rotated throughout the school, visiting different classrooms and grade levels and interacting with the school’s scholars.

“It’s fun for students to see different environments and give them more exposure to see if this is what they want to do,” said Educators Rising leader Marybeth Allison. “They love it.”
